Roy Kaplan Obituary
October 7, 1934 - January 4, 2017 Roy Kaplan, beloved husband of wife Caryl for 36 years passed gently on January 4, 2017. Roy was born on October 7, 1934, to Tania and Samuel in Los Angeles, California. He attended Hamilton High School and upon graduating joined the U.S. Navy where he honorably served his country. After his service, Roy returned to his hometown of Los Angeles, married Lore, and became father to his two children Kathi and Richard. Roy and Caryl married in 1980 and together they shared a life rich with their children and grandchildren. In 2000 Roy and Caryl moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine, water, and a boating life year round. Despite living 2500 miles away, Roy and Cookie frequently traveled to California to visit and spend time with the 6 children and 12 grandchildren they shared. Roy joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1974 as a Reserve Deputy dedicating countless hours to the Department, a pastime he thoroughly enjoyed throughout his lifetime. Roy loved a good crime novel, but was most passionate about boating, either on his own boat or his friend's boats. One of his favorite spots was Catalina Island. Caryl and Roy enjoyed traveling the world and experiencing different cultures. Roy is survived by his wife Caryl; his daughter, Kathi and her husband Neil, grandchildren Tania and Danielle; his son, Richard and his wife Nina, grandchildren Carina and Cayla; his stepchildren, Pam and her husband Ken, grandchild Lauren; Jill and her husband Aaron, grandchildren Noah and Jackson; Terri and her husband Jimmy, grandchildren Casey and Cody; David and his wife Tracy, grandchildren Max, Chase, and Ellie. Roy will be greatly missed by all. Services will be in Los Angeles later in January. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to or Girls Inc. of Sarasota.
