Ruth Organek Opolion Obituary
November 15, 1938 - March 27, 2016 Passed away after a brief illness. Born in Romania to Mayer and Rose Katseff. Ruth survived the Holocaust, though her older brother and father did not. She and her mother fled to Uzbekistan then to USSR to escape the Nazis. They met Abe Organek, who married her mother, adopted Ruth, and raised her as his own daughter. After WWII and six years in German refugee camps, the family was brought over to Paterson, NJ, by relatives. She is a graduate of Manhattan High School for Performing Arts and The Juilliard School. An accomplished pianist, Ruth made her living as a piano and voice teacher. Ruth was a true survivor, she had an amazing zest for life, and her smile lit up a room. Ruth is survived by her brother Manny (Barbara) Organek, son Ethan (Lisa) Opolion, daughter Deborah Opolion, grandchildren Elliott Opolion, Ari Opolion, Isla Opolion, and Noa Elovic, as well as extended family and friends. She is dearly missed. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 31, at 3:00pm at Mount Sinai Memorial Park - Simi Valley, 6150 Mt. Sinai Dr., Simi Valley, CA 93063.
