Ruth Ornest Obituary
May 13, 1931 - October 6, 2016 Ruth Ornest, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 6 at the age of 85. She was born in Winnepig, Manitoba, daughter of Fanny and Arthur Lerner and spent her childhood in Lockwood, Saskatchewan. She married Harry Ornest in Edmonton March 9, 1952 and moved to Vancouver a few years later. After the family moved to Beverly Hills in 1962, Ruth embarked on a successful career of interior design, owning and operating antique stores on Robertson Blvd. and 3rd Street in West Hollywood. Ruth partnered with her late husband Harry Ornest, owning The St. Louis Blues of the NHL, The Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, and founding The Vancouver Canadians of the Pacific Coast League. She was also Chairman of the Ornest Family Foundation. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a determination to succeed, and towards the end embraced the time she spent with her family and devoted care givers including Dora and Aura. Ruth laughed and danced until she couldn't, but the music never stopped. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Ornest, and her husband Rick Leslie; daughter Cindy Ornest; son Mike Ornest and his wife Marti; son Maury Ornest; grandchildren Harrison Ornest-Leslie; Ryan and Maddie Ornest. She was predeceased by her brother Irving Lerner. The funeral will be held Friday, October 14, at noon at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetary in Culver City. Donations in Ruth Ornest's memory may be made to Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles or Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services.
