Sabur S. Moini Obituary
November 23, 1962 - January 17, 2017 Sabur S. Moini, a principal at Payden & Rygel Investment Management, passed away of sudden illness on January 17 at his home in Los Angeles. He was laid to rest at a private burial service on January 21 at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills. He was 54. A devoted husband and father, Sabur will be loved forever, and deeply missed, by his loving wife of 26 years, Nazie Saffari-Moini, daughter Natasha (19), and son Danny (16). Sabur's children considered him to be their best friend. He was known for his caring and kind-hearted ways, and was also much admired for his immense knowledge, sharp intellect and witty sense of humor. Born in Pakistan and raised in Washington, DC, Sabur was a citizen of the world. While he made his home and raised his family in Los Angeles, his favorite city was London. The son of a World Bank economist, Wasay Moini, and a literary mother, Nasreen Moini - Sabur hailed from a distinguished line of public service leaders and intellectuals in the country of his birth. He grew up in a family that emphasized education and instilled in him the importance of service to others. A supporter of many philanthropic causes, Sabur was especially passionate about Doctors Without Borders. Sabur earned an MBA in Finance from UCLA and a BA in Economics from Williams College. He joined Payden & Rygel in 2000 and was responsible for the management of the Payden High Income Fund, Payden Floating Rate Fund and the Payden Global Funds Plc. Along with Sabur's wife and children, his loving parents and younger sister Saira Moini, affectionate extended family, Payden & Rygel colleagues, friends around the world, and an especially close-knit circle of friends (fellow parents of students/graduates of the Center for Early Education, Marlborough School, and Williams College), a vast community mourns the loss of an exceptional man who was taken far too soon. In memory of Sabur and his strong belief in supporting philanthropic causes, the Moini Family suggests that charitable donations be made in his honor to Doctors Without Borders.
