Salvatore Marino Obituary
December 21, 1920 - January 4, 2017 Salvatore "Sal" Marino, 96, of Seal Beach, CA, died peacefully on January 4, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston's North End on December 21, 1920, Sal later resided in Medford, MA before relocating to California in the mid-1950s. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" (Buonomo) Marino, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Devoted father of Marie Elaina Anderson of Saugus, MA; April MacMillan and her husband Frank of La Mirada, CA; Maria Marino of Long Beach, CA; and Dominic Marino of Whittier, CA. Cherished grandfather of Dawn Marie and Joe Anderson, Joel Courtis and Katie (Ryvolt) Ashley, and Theo Marino and Amanda (Marino) Griffin. Also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Faithfully served his country as a radio operator in the U.S. Merchant Marines during and after World War II (1943-1953). Above all, Sal loved lively conversation and great food while in the company of family and friends. He enjoyed hosting Sunday dinners at his home in Long Beach, feasting on seafood during his annual visits to Boston, or sipping a glass of wine with his favorite Sicilian meal. Sal leaves a legacy of love and laughter and will be affectionately remembered by many. Services will be held at All Souls Cemetery & Mortuary, 4400 Cherry Ave., Long Beach, CA 90807 on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., followed by the funeral on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in Sal's memory to St. Jude's Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org or 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
