Sanford P. ("Sandy") Ostiller Obituary
June 1, 1924 - March 19, 2016 Sandy was born in Evanston, Illinois. He attended public school in Chicago, and Northwestern University. In 1943, he entered the Army Air Force and served overseas throughout World War II, stationed in Egypt, Libya, Iraq and Iran. In 1944, his convoy was attacked by German airplanes, and over 600 were killed. After the war, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Elaine Gootnick, who became his wife in 1948. They had a son, David and daughter, Susan. Sandy became a CPA in 1954, worked for the US government and in the aerospace industry, until he established his own accounting practice. Elaine joined him in his practice and they worked together for 25 years. They shared a love for travel, and visited over 100 countries on five continents. Elaine passed away in August 2015. Sandy is survived by David Ostiller, his former wife, Cindy Morton, and their two sons, Zachary and Nathaniel, and by his daughter Susan Hartmann, her husband Jon, and their three children, Joshua, Sarah, and Jacob. His brother, Jim Ostiller, and his wife Rosemarie, also survive him, as do his brother-in-law Bill Gootnick and his wife Joan. Sandy had many long time friendships, and was loved by his family, friends and his clients. He will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at Hillside Memorial Park, Culver City, on Sunday, April 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
