Santina Fanara Wunderman Obituary
January 27, 1928 - November 16, 2016 Santina Fanara Wunderman, 88, passed away on November 16, 2016, after a courageous struggle with COPD and dementia. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Abraham Perez, second husband, William Wunderman; her step-daughters Sherry (Perez) Hofmann and Valorie Wunderman, and her siblings, Josephine, Marie, Carmella and Joseph. Santina was the fourth of ten children born to Raymond and Antonina Fanara, the first born in the United States, after they emigrated from Sicily. She was born in Winding Gulch, WV, but the family soon relocated to Waltham, MA. She graduated from Waltham High School and Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. Sandy later went back to school and received her Bachelor's Degree from California State University, Northridge, and her Master's Degree from Pepperdine University. Sandy spent many of her 45 years in Nursing in the Operating Room, and in a supervising capacity. She spent the final years of her career as a patient advocate, working as a liaison between hospitals and insurance companies. Throughout, she made personal connections with her patients, making them feel singularly well cared for. She held official offices with the California Nurses Assn and the Operating Room Nurses Assn. Sandy loved books, and was an avid reader. She was a volunteer member of the Library Guild. In retirement, she learned book binding as a hobby, and the preservation of antique books. Sandy and Bill enjoyed traveling, taking many trips around the country and abroad. Santina is survived by her children, Judith (Gary) Harrison, Ruth Ann Cooper, Jessica (Terry) Moody, Arthur (Kimberley) Perez and Elizabeth (Bill) Hardin, as well as, her siblings, Santo, Angelina, Charles, Angelo and Annette; 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
