Sheila Ostrow Obituary
October 5, 1938 - February 10, 2016 Sheila Ostrow died February 10, 2016, of a brief illness. She was born October 5, 1938, to Caesar and Natalie Adler, and grew up in Detroit, MI and Los Angeles, CA, graduating from Hamilton High School. She was beautifully married for 45+ years to the late Maynard Ostrow, and participated in his innovative amusement business success. Together, they were loving parents to Natalie (Jules), the late Noni (Dean), Ivy (Federico), and Oliver. Sheila loved music and the arts, and was a consistent example of civic engagement, volunteering with the PTA, Senior Lunch programs, helping to save the Santa Monica Pier and running for City Council. She was a longtime support board member of OPCC's SOJOURN Shelter for Battered Women, and also served as an election official for many years. She exemplified the value of family through her close relationships with sister Barbara, brother Sandy, aunts, uncles, in-laws, out-laws and cousins by the dozens. Aunt Sheila was a favorite of many nieces and nephews, and there was a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren Indigo, Ben, Hayden and Pearl, who will never forget her. A generous giver, a gracious entertainer and a loyal friend, Sheila will be remembered for her gentle wit, easy laughter and the delicious food she loved to share. A funeral will be held on Sunday, February 14 at 2pm at Pierce Brothers Mortuary, 1218 Glendon Ave., Los Angeles. Afterward, guests will be welcomed at Sheila's home.
