Shirley Laurene Saia Obituary
Shirley Munster Heeg Saia passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 following a stroke and Last Rights. Shirley was 85 and was the baby of her Munster nuclear family. Those waiting to greet her in heaven are her father and mother, William and Ethel Munster, her older sisters Betty and Pat, and brother, Bud. Shirley was a joiner. From Girls Club President at North Hollywood High to the Franciscian's of St. Francis, she was involved in service. She had a friendly and humorous personality and was always willing to help. By 1952 she had attended Woodbury College where she received a degree in Secretarial Science, and also joined Alpha Epsilon. No one could match her shorthand skills. Proof of that came as she received numerous awards including The Order of Gregg Artists for superior writing skills. Within a year, Shirley would become a Secretary in the Superintendent pool for Burbank City schools; a position she held till retirement. Also in 1952 Shirley married Ron Heeg and lived in Burbank. They were married for several decades. Later she married Al Saia, (1992) and the lived Laughlin, Nevada. Al passed away in 2002. After that, Shirley spent most of her time traveling with her sisters, or her best friends, Lois and Gordon Fleenor, and Tommy Lewis. She was also a tremendous animal lover and joined every wildlife organization there was. Shirley was in a car accident that forced her into assisted living in 2013. In 2016 she broke her hip and moved into a residential facility in Thousand Oaks, where her nephew took over her care. There will be a graveside service at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery on Tuesday, January 16 at 10AM.
