Shirley Louise Russell Obituary
September 12, 1928 - January 22, 2018

Our darling mother passed away peacefully in San Diego, California. She was 89. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, September 12, 1928, she moved to Hollywood in 1935 with her parents, Art and Eva Storm, and her brother, Arthur. Art had a shoe shop on Hollywood Boulevard frequented by Hollywood actresses. Eva was a waitress at the Roosevelt Hotel frequented by people working in pictures. Shirley had perfect attendance at Hollywood High School, but it was the classic movies of the '30s and '40s that Shirley attended just as frequently.

She went for a walk with Charles "Duke" Russell, Jr. in Avalon in 1950 and they were married at Blessed Sacrament Church in 1952. Duke worked in TV lighting. To be near Christ the King Church and School they moved to Lucerne Boulevard in 1957, site of many wonderful Fourth of July parties with Herbie Hughes and his wife Rose "Boe" (Russell) Hughes, Duke's sister.

Shirley worked as a switchboard operator, receptionist and nursery school teacher in Hollywood from the '50s through the '70s. From 1980 to 2010 she was education office manager at Immaculate Heart High School. She helped Duke run the Los Angeles Annual Abe Lincoln Remembrance at the National Cemetery at Los Angeles. Between TMC movies they became regulars on their walks on Larchmont. They moved to San Diego in 2015. Her beloved Duke passed away in 2015.

Shirley is survived by her children Charles "Chick" Russell, III (Jeanette "Jaye"), Colleen (Daniel), and Suzanne Haiker (Chris); her grandchildren Charlie, William, Jessica (Joe), Chris (Kelly), Rebecca, Jeanine (Cory), Brendan, and Michelle; her great-grandson Logan; and her nieces and nephews Sean, Maureen, Kevin (Dody) and Kathleen (Ed).

Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, 624 N. Rossmore Ave., Los Angeles on Monday, February 5 at 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to Immaculate Heart High School would be greatly appreciated.
