Sidney Lincoln Sherman Obituary
February 12, 1926 - October 5, 2015 Our free-thinking, caring, and life-long learner died peacefully when taking his afternoon nap on Monday. Writer, teacher, businessman, fisherman, dedicated father and grandfather, fiercely loyal friend, bridge player, and fighter of the good fight, Sid was an optimist who inspired those around him. Preceded in death by his amazing parents Lena and Sam, he will be deeply missed by his loving children Glenn (Cindy), Brian, Wayne (Susan), and Gayle (Stu), his "marvelous" grandchildren Melanie, Brent (Reba), Geralyn (Anthony), Sam, Josh, Layna, Noah and Spencer, great grand children Amara, Tremain and Ronin, caring sister Bernice, and many supportive cousins and friends. Sid/Dad/Grampi was raised and spent most of life in Los Angeles, except for a ten-year stint toughing it out in Minneapolis. He served in combat in the army during WWII, graduated from UCLA, and later received his Masters Degree in Sociology. Sid was extremely well read and often ahead of his time. He leaves behind a powerful legacy to fight against the status quo, think for yourself, question authority, never stop learning, and know that you can make a difference in the world. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Sid's memory to a cause that you feel captures his priorities and values or to City of Hope's new Diabetes Research Institute. Checks there may be made out to City of Hope and mailed to: City of Hope, Attention Joe Komsky, 1500 E. Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010.
