Sidney Marshall Obituary
October 9, 1928 - January 17, 2018 Sidney Marshall passed away peacefully at his home in Malibu on January 17. He was 89 years old. Sid was born a poor boy from the Bronx and moved to California where he graduated from UCLA. He worked all his life starting at age 10 with various odd jobs then moved on to the mailroom at Young & Rubicam. He worked his way up to be CEO of Y&R / Dentsu USA - the largest advertising agency in the US at the time. Sid was one of the original Mad Men, a "handsome devil," working with "Captains of Industry" from Henry J. Kaiser to Ernest Gallo, traveling and jogging the world under the Eiffel Tower and around Hotel Okura. Meeting, advising and selling industries and images always with insight and the uniquely Marshall brand of humor and stories, stories, stories. Sid fulfilled his childhood dream "If I had a million bucks, I'd give x to this one, y to another, z to many more" and he did. Always offering support - and money - to friends and family and often random souls who grabbed his heart. He was a giver. Each of his three children from his first marriage to Jan Marshall, went on to create their own successes. His two sons, Matthew and David, created successful businesses and his daughter, Juliette, created acclaimed theatrical productions. Sid played an important role in his children's lives adding support, insight and tough direction. Sid Marshall, loved and adored by many, including his second wife Nina, his sons Matt and David and their wives Sandra and Neidda, his daughter Juliette, stepdaughter Jennifer, granddaughters Hana, Shanti and Sedona. It was a profound experience for the family to watch and listen to his last breath. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
