Simon Horenstein Obituary
January 6, 1927 - February 17, 2017 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cousin, Simon Horenstein passed away on February 17, 2017. Born in Mexico City in 1927, Simon moved to Chicago when he was ten. After graduating high school, Simon joined the U.S. Army and served in the Army for four years during World War II. After his military service, Simon became a U.S. citizen, completed college at the University of Illinois and later graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1952. Simon then completed psychiatric residencies at the Langley Porter Clinic in San Francisco, at Pacific State Hospital in Pomona, and at the VA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He completed his psychoanalytic training at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute. Simon served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA while practicing medicine in Beverly Hills and Sherman Oaks for many years, retiring at the age of 80. Simon loved UCLA basketball, his family and particularly, his grandchildren. We will miss his intellect, his humor, his support and his love. Simon leaves behind his loving wife, Aureen Horenstein, his daughters, Julie Horenstein and Suzanne Horenstein Segal, sons-in-law Martin Berbach and John Segal, and his grandchildren Michael and Joseph Berbach and Daniel and Emily Segal. He is also survived by his dear cousins, the Kelvin and Kviat families. Gifts in Simon's memory may be made to the of Los Angeles and the Jewish Family Service.
