Stanley Phillips Obituary

October 21, 1933 - January 28, 2014 Stanley C. Phillips, animator, died January 28, 2014 at the age of 81. He ran his own animation studio in Denver from 1970 to 1985, specializing in short public service films. The first, in 1971, was" A Snort History", made for the Colorado Dept. of Highway Safety. It illustrated distorted perception of risk when imbibing. Three other animated short films were made to provoke discussion of the need for conservation of water, land use and power: "Water Follies", for the Denver Water Board, "Choice Stakes" for the EPA, and "Current Events" for Southern California Edison. The films have received honors and been shown world-wide, making their point with humor and music, but no voice track. After relocating to Southern California he worked for Marvel Animation, Animation Cottage, DiC Productions and Disney Animation. His favorite assignments were the "Madeline" half-hour TV series and the feature, "Madeline, Lost in Paris". He was producer/director of the animated version of "A Christmas Carol". Stan received ASIFA's Best Film award for "Current Events", a CableACE award for "Madeline", was nominated for three Emmy's and many other awards. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his son, Steve, his two sisters, Ardis Miller and Virginia Phillips of Denver, along with his grandson, Danny Phillips, and nieces, nephews and daughters-in-law. A memorial service will be held at Walnut Village, 891 S. Walnut St. Anaheim, CA 92802 on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at 3:00 PM.

"Water Follies" is more timely than ever! Thanks Stan for creating it and making it available to me and many others working to conserve water. You will be missed.
