Stanley Friedman Obituary
February 23, 1922 - May 22, 2015 Dr. Stanley Friedman passed away May 22, 2015. He was 93 years old. Born in New York City in 1922, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the Chicago Medical School. He served in the United States Army Medical Service with the rank of a major during the Korean war and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Following a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, he practiced in Saratoga Springs, New York for 8 years before taking a fellowship in gynecologic endocrinology at the University of California Medical School in San Francisco, later serving on the fulltime faculty. In 1973 he moved to Los Angeles where he practiced infertility for the next 20 years, enabling thousands of couples to achieve pregnancies. He authored over 50 medical articles and was a pioneer in many infertility treatments, including the use of ovulation-inducing drugs, laparoscopy, and artificial insemination using frozen sperm. He co-founded the in-vitro fertilization program at Century City Hospital and was an Associate Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine for many years. He is survived by his wife Lisbeth, son Matt, daughter Wendy, and grand children Lily and Ryan. A private family service was held at his home.
