Sister Stella Maria Enright Obituary
September 25, 1933 - October 21, 2017
ENRIGHT, Sister Stella Maria, Daughters of Mary and Joseph. Born September 25, 1933 to Edmund (Ned) and Bridie (Danagher) Enright in Glenagore, Athea, Co. Limerick, Ireland. Died October 21, 2017 at home, surrounded by her loving family and Community. Sr. Stella was predeceased by her parents, sister Maggie, brother Christy; brother-in-law Don and nephew Geoffrey. She is survived by her sisters Breda and Betty, brothers-in-law Phil and Ken, nieces Janet, Nuala and Diane, nephews Leslie, Kevin, Declan and Philip, grandnieces Emma and Roisin, grandnephews Ryan, Conor and Fionn. A woman of deep spirituality, guided by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, Sr. Stella was vibrant, confident, focused and unfailingly dedicated to the wholistic education of children. Her ministry began at Our Lady of Peace School, Sepulveda, and continued at St. Augustine's School, Culver City. But it was at St. Paul the Apostle School, Westwood, that she was destined to spend more than 50 years in her work of education. As an innovative Principal of St. Paul's for the past 48 years, Sr. Stella emphasized building a strong faculty rooted in a deep awareness of their Baptismal call, whose love for the children and effectiveness as teachers was second to none. Early in her ministry, Sr. Stella was recognized as National Distinguished Principal by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). Within her Community of the Daughters of Mary and Joseph, Sr. Stella was elected to Leadership teams several times, and until recently was a designated member of the Board of Directors for the Mary and Joseph Retreat Center in Rancho Palos Verdes. The Daughters of Mary and Joseph are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the Paulist Fathers and from the faculty, students and parents of St. Paul the Apostle School, including alumni. Gratitude is extended to the doctors and staff at St. John's Hospital, Santa Monica, Trinity Hospice and Honor Care Services for their compassionate care of Sr. Stella. Services will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 10750 Ohio Ave., L.A. 90024 on Friday, November 3rd, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Requiem Mass Saturday, November 4th, 10:30 AM. Graveside Services private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Sr. Stella's name to support the mission and ministries of the Daughters of Mary and Joseph, Development Office, 5300 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
