Stephen Joel SNYDER Obituary
Of Weston, FL passed away on April 9, 2016 at the age of 76 with his wife of more than 50 years, Arlene (née Green), by his side. Originally of Brookline, MA, Stephen was the son of the former Ethel Redstone and David Snyder. He was the grandson of Morris Rohtstein, founder of the original Rohtstein Flour & Sugar Company, and the nephew of Mickey Redstone -- who launched an entertainment empire with a string of drive-in theaters and Boston's Club Mayfair and Latin Quarter. Today, the family company, National Amusements, owns Viacom and CBS. While Stephen inherited that entrepreneurial spirit, having started several businesses before moving from the Boston area to Florida, he embraced the shadow cast by his über-successful family. Whether riding his horse, Champ, as a kid, flying one of his planes as a young man, or traveling with his wife in retirement, he grabbed the roots and pocketed the leaves of his own life. It is said the greatest accomplishment of a man is not found in what he did, but rather what he left behind. In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by sons Gary Snyder of Beverly Hills and Michael Snyder of Nuremberg, Germany and Weston, FL.
