Susskind, Steven R.
Born October 3, 1942 in Springfield, MA, died in an automobile accident in Tujunga, California on January 21, 2005. He grew up in Forest Hills, New York and attended Forest Hills High School and NYU. At age 15, along with his best friend Bob Minsky, formed the popular 60's singing group "The Roomates." They appeared on Dick Clark's American Bandstand singing their hit song, "Glory of Love." Steve owned several businesses and worked selling men's clothes as well as corporate industrial shows before leaving New York to follow his dream of being an actor. He moved to Los Angeles in 1980, starting Act II of his life. Steve was an announcer and voice-over actor and has done over a thousand commercials for radio, television and movie trailers. He appeared on TV in over 100 television shows. He had recurring parts on "News Radio" for two seasons, "Married With Children," for six seasons and "Get Real." He made memorable appearances on "Friends," "Will & Grace," "According to Jim," "Frasier," "Scrubs," and most recently, "The John Stamos Show." He appeared in ten films but the one that brought him most celebrity was "Friday the 13th - Part 3." The web site paid tribute to him this last week. For 25 years he also worked in the motion picture ADR/looping world with The Loop Group, The Mad Dogs and others. His voice appeared in the animated features "Shrek," "Monsters, Inc.," and "The Emperor's New Groove." He was a consummate stage actor in over 30 plays in New York and Los Angeles, including "Broadway," "Educating Rita," "How the Other Half Loves," "Opera Comique," "Ida," "Prisoner of Second Avenue," "You Haven't Changed a Bit" and recently, " Death of a Salesman" with Jack Klugman. Steve was "king of the accents" but playing Greeks was his favorite. He was an active union member working on several committees and sitting as National and Local Board member of A.F.T.R.A. He is survived by his adoring wife and soul mate, Ann Walker-Susskind; son, Scott Susskind; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Ray Fiero of New York; grandchildren, Jordan and Jillian Susskind; stepdaughters, Lauren Walker and Dr. Valeri Walker; and son-in-law, Michael Porter, as well as hundreds of loving and grieving friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lillian and Joe Susskind of New York. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, March 8th, at 7 P.M. at the Writers Guild Theatre, 135 S.
