Susan Barnes Robinson Obituary
November 12, 1943 - February 19, 2016 Susan Barnes Robinson beloved wife, mother, and sister, passed away from a long term illness on Friday, February 19, 2016. Susan was a professor of art history at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles for twenty eight years. Prior to that she taught at the University of Indiana, Bloomington. During her career Susan published books on Giacomo Balla, Francoise Gilot, Mabel Dwight, and Impressionist Works in Southern California. At various times she lived in Italy, France, Denmark, and Turkey. While travels focused on Italy, she ventured to many places around the globe. Susan was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Robert and Elizabeth Barnes on November 12, 1943. She grew up in La Cañada, CA, and after high school attended first UC Santa Barbara and then UCLA, graduating in 1965. She then completed her masters degree at UCLA, and after a break worked on her PHD at the University of Michigan. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Rome for a year and to complete her doctoral dissertation. Susan enjoyed family, friends, teaching, travel, music, gardening, and pets. She was an active, energetic, and caring person who will be greatly missed. Susan is survived by her husband of thirty nine years, Philip Robinson, her daughter Sarah Jane Matteo, and her sisters Paula Johnson and Nancy Thorne.
