August 26, 1943 - February 7, 2016 Susan Gail Ritman Macdonald passed away peacefully at home, February 7, 2016, she was 72 years old. Born in Chicago, IL to Howard and Ruth Ritman. Susan is survived by her husband of 23 years William D. Macdonald. Susan graduated with honors in microbiology from Ohio State University, then moved to California in the early 70's, employed by UCLA. Susan led an active life style and was partners in a SCUBA diving vessel to dive the Channel Islands. Ms Macdonald was a curious, adventurous traveler to exotic dive locations world wide: New Guinea, Indonesia, The Red Sea, The Galapagos, Thailand, Micronesia, Melanesia, Burma, Africa, India, and more. Susan was a Secretary of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation board of directors for many years. There, Susan helped bring awareness to the global problem of plastic debris in the open ocean as associate producer of "Synthetic Sea", the award winning educational film series. She teamed with her husband "Bill", who received the cherished NOGI award for Environment in 2014. The couple traveled to the world's most bio-diverse undersea waters to witness the very best the ocean had to offer. Susan and her husband Bill possessed the same dream. Together they fulfilled it. The couple became known as the "dream team" by their friends, relatives and associates. Susan's kindness, warmth, devout environmentalism, and strong spirit will be greatly missed by her husband, family, and friends around the world.
