Suzanne Rose Lerer Kallick Obituary
September 11, 1927 - October 31, 2016 It is with profound sadness, but with everlasting love, respect, devotion, and admiration that the family of Suzanne Rose Lerer Kallick announce her passing on October 31, 2016. Suzanne was born in San Francisco on September 11, 1927, to Maurice and Laura Lerer. After living and growing up in San Francisco, Suzanne went across the San Francisco Bay to attend and graduate from the University of California at Berkeley. Her stories about Berkeley and sorority life in the late 1940's were always worthy of a good listen and without much prompting she was known to bring out her Cal "rooter's cap" at any moment. In early 1950, Suzanne took a train trip, by herself as she would like to say, to Chicago, and on her very first evening in Chicago, Suzanne was introduced to and fell in love with Sidney S. Kallick. They were married on December 17, 1950, leaving the next day for a six-week European adventure that Suzanne would always remember, even though as she said on more than a few occasions, she was scared to death. Suzanne and Sidney lived in Chicago where their children Bella and Ivan were born and where Cocoa the standard poodle became a member of the family. Because Sidney was not interested in another Chicago winter and Suzanne's family was in California, they moved to Los Angeles in 1959. Suzanne's love, Sidney, passed away too young in 1977. Enriched by her love of and from Sidney, Suzanne lived a very active life, traveling the world, needlepointing more pillows than anyone had chairs and volunteering almost daily and until about a month ago. Suzanne was very proud of the fact that she rarely if ever missed any elementary school, middle school or high school play, function or athletic event of her four grandchildren, Sarah Kate, Spencer, Sammy and Andrew. Parents of her grandchildren's friends knew Suzanne well and enjoyed spending time with her, and they knew with a high degree of certainty that Suzanne would always be in the auditorium, at the school or in the stands at the athletic events to support her grandchildren. Suzanne's younger sister, Josephine, with whom Suzanne traveled and spoke daily, and sometimes multiple times daily as she lived on the East Coast, passed away in 2014. Suzanne is survived by her daughter Bella and Bella's husband Dr. Mark McGowan and their children Sarah Kate and Samuel and by her son Ivan Kallick and Ivan's wife Deborah and their children Spencer, and his wife Rachael, and Andrew. Suzanne is also survived by her niece Lisa Milbank and her husband Joseph and their children and her nephew Rick Fingeret and his wife Julie and their children. As devoted as Suzanne was to her family, her family was as devoted to her. Quite simply, she was and will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 10:00 am at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries in Los Angeles, California.
