Terrence Louis Hollern Obituary
April 11, 1915 - August 17, 2016 Terrence Louis Hollern, a resident of San Marino and Pasadena for over 63 years, passed away peacefully in his home on August 17, 2016. Born in 1915, he almost made 102 years old. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Edward John Hollern and Nell Marion McCormick Hollern, he enjoyed a childhood that centered on the outdoors. A gifted athlete, he played football, hockey and baseball, still playing fast pitch softball until he was 45. He was educated at The Blake School and attended Dartmouth. His first job after spending 4 years in the Army Air Corp, mostly in Alaska, was selling flour for Pillsbury. After that, he embarked on a 40 year career selling newsprint to the leading newspapers in the West. He was a long time member of Annandale Golf Club, where he shot his age twice, The Valley Hunt Club, and The Pasadena Tournament of Roses. His wife of 58 years, Barbara, predeceased him in 2003, and his oldest son Terrence Louis Hollern, Jr, predeceased him in 1962. He is survived by his sons John Hollern and his wife Cindy, his grandchildren Allison (Mark), Michael (Stephanie) and Kendra (Nick), and his great-grandchildren Brent, Paul and Cora: and son Peter Hollern and his wife Victoria, his grandchildren Tom (Tess), Alexis (Michael) and Emily (Scott), and his great grandchildren Maxwell, Olivia, Paige and Bridget: and sister Carolyn Hollern Blondel. All of us will miss his most wonderful sense of humor, kindness and positive outlook. He was a very special man. At his request, there will be a private family service. In lieu of donations, please do something kind for someone else.
