Theodora Stellar Hopper Obituary
January 15, 1926 - November 21, 2017 Theodora (Teddy) Lair was born in China, the daughter of Presbyterian missionaries. Teddy attended American missionary schools until moving to Pasadena, California, at the age of 12. She graduated from Westridge School for Girls and matriculated to Occidental College. In 1948 Teddy married Robert Stellar, and together they raised three sons in South Pasadena. In 1969, the Rev. Robert Stellar D.D., Canon, head of the Episcopal City Mission Society of Los Angeles, passed away. Teddy was active at All Saints Pasadena. She worked with volunteer organizations including the United Way and the American Red Cross. In 1984 Teddy married her former Pasadena neighbor, Wilbur Hopper and moved to Del Mar, California. For many years Teddy enjoyed entertaining friends and family at the beach in Del Mar. In 2001 Teddy was named Woman of the Year by the North County Times for her work at Del Mar Community Connections. During the past six years Teddy lived happily at Mt. San Antonio Gardens in Claremont, California. Teddy was predeceased by her youngest son, David Stellar, and Wilbur Hopper. Teddy is survived by John Stellar (Nancy), Stephen Stellar (Jane), daughter-in-law Randi Stellar, and seven loving grandchildren: Brad, Jeff, Kathryn, Robert, Anne, Elizabeth, and Alex Stellar. An open memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena on January 6, 2018 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the or the City of Hope.
