Thomas Bruce Faigin Obituary
June 21, 1938 - October 11, 2015 Tom Faigin, who was a well-known performer and guitar teacher since the early '60s in Southern California, passed away after a long and heroic battle with liver disease. He was at home with his wife of 55 years, Anne and his daughter, Cecelia by his side as well as his loving care-takers Cesia Zurita and Jemima Castenada and the wonderful hospice nurses who eased his passage. He was a talented musician who also taught banjo and mandolin before, during, and after teaching ELL, English and guitar classes for LAUSD full-time. He was at Birmingham HS, Monroe HS and finally Kennedy HS by the time he retired after 25 years. However he continued teaching music privately and to groups as he had always done at California State University, Los Angeles, UCLA extension, the Summer Solstice Festival, Songmaker's events and many workshops and hootenannies. In the last 10 years he led the Geritones, a group of musicians who performed for folk dance events as well as retirement homes. He will be remembered for his humor, his music, and the "warm interest he took in our lives." according to a young cousin Torin Rotstein. He will be missed deeply by his family, his friends, and his students.
