Thomas Francis Overlander Esq Obituary
April 5, 1941 - December 2, 2017 Also known as Tom, he was a retired lawyer, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Born in the Bronx, New York. Passed away in Lakeway, Texas, due to an accident. As a boy, Tom was an altar boy and a proud Eagle Scout. He went on to earn his Bachelor's in History in 1964 at City College of New York. After receiving his degree Tom served from 1964-1966 in Korea as a U.S. Army Artillery Lieutenant with his last assignment in major command. Tom then settled in California where he met the love of his life, Margaret Cota Overlander. He attended Southwestern University Law School in Los Angeles (JD with honors, 1973) Delta Theta Phi fraternity member (president 1971-1972), Southwestern University Law Review (Staff Member 1971-1972, Managing Editor 1972-1973). He passed the Bar in 1973. He had his own law firm and was an accomplished civil litigator with offices in both Glendale and L.A. for 20 years. During his career Tom changed laws and helped many people. Tom loved living life to the fullest, with hobbies and interests that included history, collecting manuscripts, genealogy which led to his co-authoring the biography, "Michael Cavanagh: His Life and Selected Works." A lifelong Cowboy aficionado, Tom relished reading, traveling the world, all music, hunting, fishing, art and fine dining. He was a generous man who valued his friends and loved his family. Preceded in death by brother, Rufus M. Overlander III. Survived by beloved wife, Margaret, children, Mary C. Overlander and Marshall W. Overlander, daughter-in-law Grace, and three grandchildren, Margherite, Thomas, and Catherine.
