Thomas Long Flattery Obituary
November 14, 1922 - November 1, 2017 Thomas Long Flattery, born Nov. 14, 1922 in Detroit, MI, to Thomas J. & Rosemary (Long) Flattery, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at his home in Pacific Palisades, CA, at the age of 94. Tom attended the University of Detroit and in 1941 joined the Enlisted Reserve Corps, completing basic training at Camp Roberts, CA. Following his USMA Army training program Tom was admitted to West Point in July 1944. After graduation in 1947, he returned to Grosse Pointe, MI, where he married Gloria M. Hughes on June 10, 1947. Together they had 6 children. They moved to Pacific Palisades, CA, in August 1952. He graduated from UCLA law school and was admitted to practice law in 1955; to the Connecticut Bar in 1983 and the NY Bar in 1984. He had numerous affiliations with the CA State Bar and had authored articles on Corporate and Patent Law. Tom entered corporate law serving in key positions for top ranking corporations including McCulloch Corporation, Technicolor, Inc., Schick Inc., and Automation Industries/Penn Central Corp. They relocated to Greenwich, CT, 1979-1986. Gloria passed away October 1984 of breast cancer. Tom met Barbara Balfour on a visit to Hawaii and they were married in October 1986. In 1993 Tom's focus moved to the field of alternative dispute resolution. He served on the American Arbitration Assn., NASD Board of Arbitrators,Temporary Judge assignments for LA Municipal Courts. Tom was predeceased by Gloria Flattery and survived by his family: wife Barbara, daughters Connie Flattery, Dianne Lee, and Betsy Sprecher, sons Michael, Tom and Jerry Flattery; grandchildren Patrick Bagnall, Wendy Anderson and Molly McQueen Flattery, Kristin Lee Watumull and Jeffrey Lee; great-granddaughters Jade & Jemma Watumull, and Nova Rea Anderson; stepdaughters Laura Lundquist, Linda Flint and Bill Balfour; grandchildren Tom & Barbara Lundquist, Sara & Jacob Flint and Lauren & Jack Balfour. Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, Pacific Palisades, CA, on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:00 am.
