Thorvald Kristian "T.K." Petersen Obituary
December 13, 1913 - October 16, 2017 T.K. died peacefully at the age of 103 in his beloved Santa Monica, CA - "God's Country". The proud product of two Danish immigrants, he grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, learning to speak and write Danish fluently. T.K. began violin playing as a child and continuing throughout his life for the joy of it. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University where he met his first wife, Islay Mary. They headed to the much warmer weather of the west coast, where he started his professional career in the aerospace industry. They had one child, our wonderful brother, John Walker Ehlers, who passed too soon. Later, T.K. met his second wife, Beverly Hills girl Phyllis Irma, on a blind date. Three months later they were married and settled in Santa Monica. Together they raised their family of three children: Nancy, Martin and Robin. They both were fortunate to live the rest of their lives in their Santa Monica home. TK cared fiercely for his family and close friends. He was a man of example, showing his love through action. Hard work was never an obstacle. He took pride in all of his accomplishments and encouraged others to follow suit. He stood by his word and would do everything in his power to follow through. Up till a few weeks before his passing, T.K. was playing duets, instructing anyone he could talk into helping him with making toys for family and neighbor kids, instructing Martin how to fix the old toy car his father made for him, and trying to find a way to sail once again in his sixteen foot wood boat, Papeete. A Celebration of Life will be held with a gathering of family and friends. We love you and you will be missed by all of us. Skaal!
