V. Terry Bennett Obituary
November 12, 1933 - July 20, 2017 Terry Bennett, pioneer, aeronautical engineer, gifted artist, and globetrotting dealmaker, passed away on July 20, 2017 in Los Angeles surrounded by those who loved her. Always interesting, and forever interested in the world around her, Terry charged through life-an independent, entrepreneurial and wonderfully vibrant spirit. Born Vaughan Terry Ann Roquet in Chicago, Illinois, Terry grew up with a father she loved, Henry August Roquet. He encouraged her early interest in science-largely off limits to women in the late 1940s-and after earning her engineering degree, she struck out on her own. Before long, she broke through to become the first female design consultant hired by the aviation giant Hughes Aircraft, married her one and only husband, Brad Bennett and settled in L.A. After a few short years, Terry took a new direction-and in the early '60s, opened the funky Hollywood furniture store where she met her lifetime companion, Barbara Libbin Morrison. From then on, though Terry lived and worked around the world, she always saw the "Villa Paradiso" on Laurel Canyon that she shared with Barbara as home. Together they hosted parties for a circle of artists, performers, charmers and dreamers while Terry explored her talents as a painter and printmaker at LA's Barnsdall Art Center. There she met some of her dearest friends and leaves us a beautiful body of work. Clever. Elegant. Mysterious. Just like she was. Rest in Peace and Free from Pain, Terry. Your spirit will live in and among us who love you. A celebration of Terry's life will be on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 11:30 AM at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles.
