Verda M. Tobin Obituary
June 24, 1918 - January 11, 2017 Verda M. Tobin, (98), of Lake Forest, CA, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017, at Saddleback Memorial in Laguna Hills, CA. She was born on June 24, 1918, in Kansas, to Herman and Fern Nelgen. She married Melvin M. Wiley in Pleasanton, NE, in 1941. Mel died of a heart attack in 1968, after the family had moved to southern California. Verda married Lyndon Tobin in Hawthorne, CA, in 1972. Lyn passed away in 2012, following the couple's move from their home in Mission Viejo to Freedom Village, in Lake Forest. Verda had a long career as an elementary school teacher. She obtained her teacher accreditation at Kearney State Teachers College in Nebraska, after graduating from high school at age 15, and later received a BA degree from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. She retired from Hawthorne Intermediate in 1983. Verda's life was guided by a commitment to faith, family, and friends. She is survived by children, M. Douglas and Karla Wiley and Dianne and Mike Meacher; grandchildren, Kimberly Hillebrand and David Wiley; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Makenna, and Zackary Iknadosian, and Nicholas and Avery Wiley; and her sister, Marge Dreger. She is preceded by the death of her sister, Florence Marie Wilson (2011). Verda lived and long and happy life. Her kindness and generosity brought much joy to family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Mission Viejo, on February 18, at 11:00 am.
