Vicki Sekiguchi Granucci Obituary
October 8, 1949 - October 25, 2016 Vicki Sekiguchi Granucci peacefully passed away on October 25, 2016 after a brief but courageous fight with cancer. Vicki was born in Philadelphia on October 8, 1949 to Shizue "Peggy", and Masayuki "Henry" "Hank" Sekiguchi. The family briefly moved to Utah before moving to the Los Angeles area when Vicki was two years old, and to Gardena when she was a teenager. Vicki received her B.A. in 1972 from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She received her Masters of Social Work from UCLA in 1975 and became a licensed clinical social worker in 1979. After a short time in Health Services working with persons with alcoholism, Vicki spent the majority of her 40 year career with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Pacific Asian Counseling Services, and in private practice. Vicki loved and respected her clients and she loved to supervise and share her experience with new clinicians. She learned about life and how to be a better person and psychotherapist from her clients and supervisees as they learned from her. She was a loving wife of 27 years to her husband, Tom, and loved her son Ryan. She is so proud of him for following his calling into the ministry, and she is so happy for his engagement to Saki Tanabe. Vicki will be remembered by family and friends for her energy and fun, especially for making everyone play games at family gatherings, and her good luck at craps in Las Vegas (which she used to buy excellent seats at Lakers games to see her favorite player, Kobe Bryant). She was an original "Beatle-maniac" and she loved Motown, especially "Smokey". Although her life ended before we expected, she had a life full of many blessings. She especially enjoyed ski vacations, driving trips all over the country, camping, and travels to Hawaii, Canada, Japan and Italy. Vicki loved God and Jesus. Her already strong faith was deepened as she relied on Him daily to get her through her battle with cancer, and He showed her many times that He was with her. She loved her women's group at Venice Free Methodist Church, where the family attends. Vicki made a difference in the lives of a lot of people: family, friends, colleagues, and clients. She is very missed and will not be forgotten. She is survived by: her husband, Tom; son Ryan; future daughter-in-law, Saki; her 96 year old mother, Peggy; younger brother, Jon; sister-in-law Jessica, a large loving extended family; many friends; and their dog, Suki (which means love in Japanese). In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation in her memory please do so online to the Nozomi Project, or ZOE International, or the City of Hope Women's Cancers Program. Services, open to all, will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Wintersburg Presbyterian Church 2000 N. Fairview Street, Santa Ana 92706. Attire: "Dressy Casual" per Vicki please. Burial, open to all, will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park 27501 S. Western Ave. Rancho Palos Verdes 90275.
