Violet Hazel Mullins Obituary
April 17, 1924 - August 20, 2017 The joyful spirit of Violet Hazel Mullins left us on August 20th, at the age of 93. Born in Oklahoma, she moved to California a few years after WWII with her new husband, William. He went to work at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, and they bought a new home in the early 1950s in Manhattan Beach, where they raised three children: Chalon (1952), Chris (1955), and Carrie (1957). In 1966 the family moved to a new home further west, on 6th Street. Violet was still living in that home up until her final trip to the hospital. As her children entered their high school years, Violet fulfilled a long held dream and started college, graduating from Cal State Long Beach in 1972 with a BA in History. She soon found her way into Democratic Party support circles and became a major figure in the South Bay Democratic Club. She would attend two conventions as a delegate - Clinton's in 1992 and Gore's in 2000. When William retired from Hughes, they traveled together and enjoyed life. As William's health declined, her primary focus became caring for him, utilizing her experience as a trained hospice service provider. But she always had time for her beloved grandsons Ryan and Conor, sons of Chalon and his wife Sandy Petersen of Danville CA. She will be missed by her large extended family of relatives, friends, neighbors, and even many complete strangers to whom she joyfully introduced herself. She was Violet to the end. Violet's memorial service will be held starting 2pm, Saturday, September 23rd at the Pacific Unitarian Church - 5621 Montemalaga Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes.
