June 11, 1921 - June 23, 2015 Virginia Laurie Patterson Emrey, daughter of Margaret E. Saunders and Milton M. Patterson, was born in Chicago on June 11, 1921. After attending schools in the Los Angeles area and in Charlevoix and Lansing, Michigan, she graduated from Glendale High School and attended Glendale Community College and Michigan State College. She married Robert Charles Emrey in 1941, and soon after they moved to Glendale, California, where she lived the rest of her life. Always active in civic life in Southern California, she led the Tuesday Afternoon Juniors Club in Glendale and later served in leadership positions in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Glendale Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. From the 1950s, she built her interest in genealogy into a lifelong pursuit, working as volunteer with the Southern California Genealogical Society in Burbank and the Charlevoix, Mich, Historical Society. In search of her and others' family history records, she traveled the U.S., Ireland, and Scotland. She was blessed with three children, Robert Emrey, James Emrey, and Thomas Emrey; seven grandchildren, Eric Emrey, Michael Emrey, Thomas Emrey, Troy Emrey, Barry Emrey, and Stephanie Emrey; and one great grandchild, Dayton Parker. Late in life, she married Dana Patten. He died in 2014 after five and one-half years of marriage. She died at be.Windsor in Glendale on June 23, 2015, and will buried in the Court of Liberty, Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, in a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AIDS Project of Los Angeles (www.apla.org) or Salvation Army of the USA (salvationarmyusa.org). A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Glendale Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 30, at 1:00 pm. The public is invited.
