Walter E. Seastrom Obituary
November 4, 1923 - October 13, 2017 Walt Seastrom passed away peacefully on October 13, 2017 at the age of 93. Born in Los Angeles, Walt graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1942. In 1943, he entered the Army and volunteered for the Army Air Force where he received his flight training. After training, Walt was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served with the 489th Bomb Group, 2nd Air Division, 8th AF during WW II, based in Halesworth, England. At the age of 20, he became a pilot flying B24's and B29's, four engine bomber planes, with a crew of ten. Walt was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant at the end of the war, and immediately enrolled at the University of Southern California. While at USC, he played water polo and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He graduated in 1949 from USC with a BA in Industrial Engineering and in 1962 he received his MBA, also from USC. Walt and his wife, Poppy built their home in South Pasadena in 1965 where they raised their 4 children. He had a long and successful career in engineering and consulting industries. He retired as Vice President of Barry and Co. Consulting Management Engineers. Retirement did not last long as Walt then established his own independent consulting business which he ran for 12 years. He was a registered Professional Engineer with the State of California. As a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, he served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Walt treasured his family and was devoted to his Catholic faith. He enjoyed participating in 5K and 10K races with his running buddies, loved Dodger baseball and was a lifelong USC Trojan fan. He was especially passionate about spending his summers at his beach house in Newport Beach. Walt is survived by his wife of 67 years, Poppy, his children, Steve (Sue), Kathy Mills, Tim (Laurie) and Dave (Cindy) and his 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He will be remembered and honored forever in our hearts. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 3rd. Donations to St. John of God Hospital, 2468 S. St. Andrews Pl. L.A. 90018, in Walt's memory would be appreciated.
