Wells Wohlwend Obituary

August 3, 1931 - March 7, 2015 Born in Chicago, Illinois on August 3, 1931, WELLS K. WOHLWEND, a Los Angeles attorney, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 from pancreatic cancer on March 7, 2015 in Dallas, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Wells was married to the love of his life of 60 years, Joy Guinn, whom he met while attending UCLA. At UCLA, he was a yell leader, member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and was on the UCLA Golf Team remaining an avid golfer throughout his life. He and Joy were members of Bel Air Presbyterian church in Los Angeles. Wells was an enthusiastic football fan, including UCLA, and other collegiate teams. He especially enjoyed Pro-Football in the early years of the LA Rams. Wells retired in 1993 from his Century City law practice after 35 years with Johnson, Bannon, Wohlwend and Johnston, with Harry Olivar joining soon after. In the same year Wells and Joy relocated from Encino, CA to Rancho Mirage, CA. They moved to Dallas, Texas in 2006 to be close to family. After graduating from UCLA in 1952, Wells served on active duty with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, and continued 5 years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval reserve. He graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1957. His loyalty, gratitude, and passion for UCLA continued throughout his life serving on numerous Boards and Committees: General Counsels for the Alumni Association and the University, Foundation Board of Trustees, Board of Councilors and Board of Directors, Charter Member of the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame and a Member of Order of the Blue Shield. In 1990 he was honored with the prestigious University Service Award. Wells and Joy were members of Chancellors Circle, and Chancellors Associates. They were Benefactors of John Wooden Sports Center and Founders of James E. West Alumni Center. Wells is survived by his wife Joy, son Jeffrey Lee and wife T.J., daughter Jan Wohlwend True and husband Mike. He is also survived by two wonderful grandchildren, Kimberly Joy Cycon and Garrett Lee Wohlwend. He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Fran Wohlwend and sister, Elouise Wohlwend Crawford.
