ELLIS, William Benjamin dies at 93; Tuskegee Airman fighter pilot flew the P-40 Warhawk and P-39 Aircobra.
Born in Atlanta, GA on April 24, 1916, he grew up in Washington D.C. and attended Armstrong Technical High School and Miner Teachers College. On February 17, 1941, Bill entered the United States Army assigned to Ft. Mead Maryland and entered pilot training in 1942. After successfully completing all phases of flight training from Tuskegee Army Air School, he graduated with Class 43G on July 23, 1943. 1st Lieutenant William Ellis voluntarily left the Air Force on April 27, 1950. He received his BA in Accounting and Business Administration from the American University School of Business Administration and Public Affairs in 1953, and worked as a financial consultant, tax examiner and a Deputy Assessor for the County of Los Angeles from which he retired. A founding member of the Los Angeles Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. and the LACTAI Scholarship Fund, he was active and could always be counted on to suit up and assist with speaking engagements and book signings throughout Southern California. William B. Ellis is deeply missed by all that knew and respected him.
