William "Bill" McGarvey Jr.

1921 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
November 5, 1921 - May 14, 2015 Bill, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Fullerton. Born in Wooster, Ohio on November 5, 1921. His family moved to California in 1937 where he graduated from Manual Arts HS in 1939. He joined the Navy in 1941 and was on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific theater in WWII. In 1953 he joined Chapman Ave Realty as a realtor and later formed McGarvey-Thompson Realty and subsequently McGarvey-Clark Realty where he served as Chairman of the Board. He married Virginia in 1945. She preceded him in death in 1994. They moved to Fullerton in 1951 and he remained there until his death. Bill was involved in more than six decades of charitable work and community service. He was the founding president of the Friends of the University for Cal State Fullerton and served 37 years on the CSUF President Advisory Council Board. He was the Past President of the Fullerton Rotary Club, the Fullerton District Board of Realtors, the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce, and the Big Brothers of North Orange County. He was named a Super Good Guy in 1969 by the Boys and Girls Club of Fullerton, Mr. Education in 1964 by the Fullerton School Board and Man of the Year in 1965 by the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded the CSUF President's Medallion in 1992 (one of two in the past 50 years). He is survived by his sons, William III (Janet) and Patrick (Anna) and four grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew, Molly and William IV as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, June 26th at 11:00 am at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. In lieu of flowers please contribute to one of the charitable organizations that he so generously gave to during his lifetime.
