Bill was born in San Francisco, California to parents, Dr. William Lane Hewitt and Pauline Barbara Hewitt, and grew up in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. He graduated from California State University, Northridge where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. His initial working years were in the shoe industry and involved stays in Chicago and Dallas. He returned to Los Angeles in 1980 where he began a successful career in commercial real estate. He ultimately concluded his career at Forest City as Senior Vice President, responsible for West Coast leasing operations. His tenure at Forest City spanned 20 years before retiring in 2009. In his personal life, Bill married in 1991 to his now former wife, Viviana Hewitt, and was adopted into her Chilean family. He and Viviana remained very close friends through the years as they raised their daughter, Victoria. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Anne Hewitt, his former wife, Viviana Hewitt, his sister, Judith Knopinski, his colleagues and friends, and his second family in Santiago, Chile.
