William R. (Billy) Redus Obituary
June 13, 1917 - April 7, 2017 In 2014, Billy said that he wanted to live until he was a 100 or more as long as he could still laugh at himself. He was 2 months and 6 days short of the 100, but could joke and laugh at himself just a few days before he passed on April 7, 2017. Billy was born on June 13, 1917 to Richard Irving Redus and Virgie Bell Shannon Redus in Howland, Texas. At a young age, Billy and his parents moved to Groom where he graduated from Groom High School. He returned to Paris, Texas for 2 years getting his associate's degree from Paris Jr. College. He was then drafted into the Air Force and was discharged in the Fall of 1945. While waiting at the depot in Macon, Georgia, he read an article about UCLA's new school of Apparel Design. He went home to Groom, bought a ticket to LA, and by February 1946, he was enrolled at UCLA. He spent 30+ years in the garment industry after graduation. He retired to his home in West Hollywood, Calif., where he resided until his death. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his partner in life Edward Stewart Tavant, three brothers, L.J. Redus, Hubert Blaylock Redus, and Edgar Lyndol Redus; and 2 sisters, Minnie Bell Redus Burnsed, and Vera Jo Redus Thompson. He is survived by his sister-in-law, DeLoria Redus (wife of Lyndol), his faithful caregiver and friend, Jesus Marcelo, 2 nieces and 6 nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. He had a sharp, inquisitive mind; a cheerful, loving spirit; and was a faithful donor to numerous charitable causes. Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 12 at 9 a.m, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Calif.
