Ysabel Sims Obituary
September 10, 1936 - October 12, 2017 Ysabel "Ysie" Prendiville Sims, 81, of La Habra, California, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on October 12, 2017. She is survived by her husband, Dewayne, and her children, Kathleen Rader-Igna (Bob), Kelly Swain, Kerry Mahler (Lance), John Sims, and Laurie Sims; her brother, Garrett Prendiville, his wife, Margaret, and her brother, Rev. Thomas Prendiville, S.D.B. She is preceded in death by her adored son, David Michael Sims, and her brother, John "Jack" Prendiville, and sister, Patricia "Gussie" Lawton. Ysie was the loving and dedicated grandmother to Devin, Taylor, Bobby, Garrett, Ysabel, and Michael. She loved and took great joy in the lives of her many Lawton, Prendiville, and Sims nieces and nephews and their families. Born on September 10, 1936 in Long Beach to Garrett Prendiville of Listowel, Kerry, Ireland, and Ysabel Yriarte Prendiville of Brea, CA, Ysie was raised on her family's idyllic urban farm in Bellflower, CA. She graduated St. Anthony H.S. in Long Beach in 1954. Ysie treasured her lasting friendships from St. Anthony's and she received wonderful support from those friends during her illness. She began working at La Habra Law Office in 1954 and was an invaluable asset to her colleagues and attorneys. Her decades at the Law Office bore many deep and lifelong friendships. In 1958 Ysie and her father moved to La Habra and there she met her future husband, Everett "Dewayne" Sims. Ysie and Dewayne were married for 56 wonderful years, enjoying their large extended family, excellent friends, and world travels. In 1979, Ysie finished night school at USC - a noteworthy achievement for a working mother of six young children, but not a surprising feat from this incredibly smart person who was known for her daily, thorough reading of two newspapers and every book that came her way. Ysie was a great beauty with a dazzling smile and fantastic sense of humor. But she is best known for her amazing kindness and empathy. She helped so many people and countless causes with her generosity, caring ear, and problem-solving nature. Her favorite causes were those that helped veterans, global children's charities, juvenile diabetes, and those that supported her affection for cats and dogs. Ysie's retirement was spent in volunteer work at the La Habra Community Care Resource Center. Many of her CCRC clients became friends for whom she would care for many years. A Catholic of deep faith, Ysie was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Her family is feeling this loss profoundly and in full recognition that they are the fortunate ones to have had Ysie for a wife and mother. We will miss her unconditional love, clever advice, adventurous cooking, strong cocktails, soft voice, and the kindest smile ever known. Ysie was like no other. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 900 West La Habra Blvd, La Habra. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ysabel's name to the , the La Habra Community Care Resource Center, or simply do a good deed in her memory.
