J. Fred MacDonald Obituary
March 14, 1941 - April 9, 2015 J. Fred MacDonald passed away April 9, 2015 in his home in Los Angeles. As President of MacDonald & Associates, a stock footage company with a vast archive in Chicago, Fred worked with filmmakers, researchers, documentarians, tv programmers and other media personnel for over 20 years. The Library of Congress now owns this archive. As a Professor at Northeastern Illinois University he taught the history of popular culture for 27 years and he will be missed by his many thousands of students. Born in Nova Scotia in 1941 Fred and his family moved to Hawthorne, California after WWII. Fred earned a BA and an MA in history from Berkeley and a Ph.D. in history at UCLA. He spent a year in Paris on a Fulbright scholarship and loved to say he was there during the 1968 revolution. Fred wrote six books and many articles and they can be read at jfredmacdonald.com. Fred had no children and is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leslie Waldrop MacDonald. There is no service.
