Marjorie Marjanen Obituary

MARJANEN, Marjorie Otis Beloved wife of Toivo of 56 years, dear mother of Edward (deceased), Suni and Mike (Debbie), adoring grandmother of Kimberly (Mark), Kristopher, Brett and Ashley. Margie grew up in Southern California and attended the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. Before becoming an accomplished professional artist, her first, yet brief career was as a legal secretary. In addition to other media which included ceramic and copper enamel, she specialized and excelled in oils. She was an honored member of the Santa Monica Art Association as well as several other westside art associations. In addition to art shows, her paintings were exhibited in many business establishments as well as the Finnish Embassy in Washington, D.C. Over the years she was an active member of the YMCA/YWCA, Scouting, PTA, First Presbyterian Church Mariners and Meals-On-Wheels. Among the many honors she received, "Woman of the Year" awarded by the Brentwood/Santa Monica Kiwanis for her extraordinary work is one that was very special to her. She loved to travel. She and Toivo enjoyed extensive travels to many places around the world, making lasting friendships wherever they went. She was a wonderful and cherished friend to all and had as her mission in life to make everyone around her happy. This she did through her cheerfulness and thoughtfulness. She was an amazing woman and will be greatly missed. Memorial Service will be held at noon on January 19 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1220 Second St., Santa Monica.

Suni is a friend and coworker. I extend my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of her dear mother, who must have been a wonderful person to raise such a sweet daughter as Suni. God bless you all with the peace that passes understanding.
