Phyllis Heckman
On Sunday, March 3, 2013 an amazing woman left our earth. Phyllis Heckman, 80 years of age from Huntington Beach who never had an enemy. She was one of the kindest human beings known to man. Phyllis battled many chronic ailments but succumbed to pneumonia. Phyllis has joined her husband John in Heaven who died 7 months ago.
Phyllis was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, February 3, 1933 and lived there until 1952 when she moved to South Gate, Ca. She worked at General Motors as a secretary where she met her husband of 57 years. They moved to Lakewood, Ca and raised daughter, Terry Leone, (Paul) and son, Pete Heckman (Jennifer). During this time in Lakewood Phyllis became a "lunch lady" for the Bellflower school district where she met a great group of friends who called themselves "the lunch bunch". In 1997 they moved to Huntington Beach and have lived there ever since.
Phyllis has 3 grandchildren who she was very proud of. Danielle Leone, Nicholas Leone and Diane Heckman. Phyllis will be remembered as a woman who never complained, amazed even her own doctors with her courage, and one of the most lovable women you would ever know. "As hard as we are crying here on earth, everyone in Heaven is jumping for joy that she is finally there."
The family would like to thank St. Michael Hospice, Andy, Rini, Linda and Kami for their compassionate care and Dr. Hubert Sie of Hoag hospital whose intelligence, gentleness and sense of humor got Phyllis through many a battle. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers please give a hug to someone you love. Phyllis was always ready to give a hug and a smile.

Phyllis was our Mom's most wonderful best friend, more like a sister. How they would talk on the phone for hours and laugh. Even on the darkest of days, Phyllis would always have an encouraging word. She is very missed here on earth but Heaven is rejoycing and having a BIG CELEBRATION. She will be the BEST of ANGELS. We will always remember her and can't wait until we meet again. Much love and sympathy being sent to Terry and family.

Terry, your mom was so blessed to raise such a wonderful daughter who is so loving, giving and caring. She was in your loving, caring hands to the end of her earthly life and is now smiling down at you and your family as you move forward. You are the child that we all hope to have and I am proud to call you friend. She had to be wonderful, she raised you!

Phyllis was always a bright spot in the room! I remember what hard workers she & your dad were when involved with the Mayfair H.S Band Booster Club. I could count on them for everything! She will be missed and my thoughts & prayers go to the rest of the family. Hugs,Betty

Dear Mom, you are one of a kind. This last week has been so difficult without you here. I know you are now pain free, running around, shopping, cooking, sewing...all your favorite things. It will just take me a while to understand that I cannot pick up the phone or even walk across the street to see you. I will always love you. Love, Tootie
