Barbara Chunn Perry Obituary
Barbara Chunn Perry The extraordinary life of Barbara Chunn Perry (affectionately known as Grammie Barbie) came to an end on August 6th, 2018. Barbara was born on August 24, 1921 to Jack and Margaret Chunn. While her travels (and service to this country) may have taken her around the world, Long Beach was her home. After all, it is where she met and married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Perry in 1946. Bob was an officer in the Navy, and Barbara (once a US Marine herself) was a proud Navy wife. Their early years as a couple were spent growing their family and traveling the world; stationed in locations all throughout the United States and as far off and the Philippines. When Bob retired from the Navy in 1968, he and Barbara returned home - to Long Beach - with their three children and bought their dream house in Naples. They may not have known it at the time, but that house on Syracuse Walk would become far more than just a home. It would become the official headquarters of the entire Perry/Piercy Clan and the backdrop for four generations of family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and summer sleepovers. Barbara was the center of it all our matriarch. She was steadfast and strong-willed, but she was also generous and kind. If you needed a place to stay, or just someone to talk to, Barbara had an open door policy. She was quick-witted and could tell the best stories, but she was an even better listener. Full of empathy and humor, she was a woman who loved her family and friends fiercely. But, Barbara didn't just fill her own home with love, she poured that same compassion and dedication into serving veterans and her community through the American Red Cross. During her over 30-year commitment to the Red Cross she received many awards, including being named "Outstanding Woman of the Year" by The City of Long Beach in 2001. She truly was an remarkable woman, and her legacy of love will be remembered by all who were blessed to have known her. Barbara is survived by her three children: Tom Perry (wife Betty), Paula Piercy (husband Bob), David Perry (wife Cheryl); her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her brother Jack Chunn, and her sister Dorothy Fletcher (husband Bob); and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, August 25th at Old Ranch Country Club 3901 Lampson Ave, Seal Beach, CA 90740.
