She grew up with 2 older sisters Harriet and Charlene. She attended Indiana University and became a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. While at IU, she met the love of her life William Sutton, a Major in the Army Air Corps. They married in 1943 but just 4 short years later, he lost his life in an automobile accident 1947. Prior to moving to the desert, she spent many happy years in Long Beach where she was very active with many philanthropic organizations. She hosted many charitable events at her home with her husband, Lloyd Whaley, who pre-deceased her in 1972. Evelyn moved to the desert full time in the mid-80s. She became a member at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church and loved her "religious" family and especially loved the outreach programs and the music of the choir. Always an avid golfer, she had been a member at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach and El Dorado Country Club in Palm Desert. After moving to Marrakesh Country Club, she enjoyed many more years of playing golf. After golf became too difficult, she joined the Putters and she always had a story to share with them. While at Marrakesh she met her beloved companion, "Top" Auger and they shared many years traveling the globe together. Evelyn was an avid reader, always kept up with current events and did the crossword puzzles in the paper every morning. She enjoyed playing Words with Friends and was a voracious Rummikub player. She remained active with her TriDelta Sorority and had recently received Diamond Circle membership after 75 years of being a member. Always a strong matriarch of the family, Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Ed) Splinter; son, Scott (Judy) Curtis; and daughter, Kim (Tom) Brickley. She has 8 grandchildren: Jim, Wendi, Lisa, Shannon, Caitlin, Blake, Keloree and Maisy; 5 great grandchildren: Amanda, T.J., Edward, Summer and Max; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Mason and Randal.
