Joseph C. Miskiel, Jr.

MISKIEL, JOSEPH C. JR, eldest son of the late Joseph C. Sr and Louise Anna (Sponseller) Miskiel, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Kindred Hospital, Westminster, CA. Joe was born in Kingston, PA, July 11, 1932. His parents relocated family to San Francisco in 1944 during WWII for employment. As war was ending, the family moved again to Long Beach and stayed. He and his two brothers attended St. Anthony HS, where he graduated Class of 1950. He went to work at Douglas Aircraft for three years before entering the US Navy 1953-55, where he served on USS Whiting-AV-14, and USS Philippine Sea, and earned Good Conduct, National Defense and United Nations Medals. Following Honorable Discharge, Joe returned to DAC where he held many different A/C development/manufacturing positions and retired from there (McDonnell Douglas now Boeing) in 1995. Interim years he also worked at Rockwell and Air Research. In 1958, Joe married the late Mary Ann Strobel who preceded him in death, January 1997. Together they had five children, three of whom died at very early ages: Regina (4), Michael (5) and Sheila (still born) from Cystic Fibrosis. Joe was a very active member of St. Cornelius RC Church, BSA Scout Master, Honorary K of C Life Member of Mon. John Cawley Council #3629, a former avid bowler and SkyLinks golfer/Men's Club. In October 1998, Joe married Diane Brandt. Together they loved to travel, they drove in all 48 contiguous states, and several of the HI Islands. Although they cruised to Alaska, they were unable to drive in our 50th state. They enjoyed several cruises and drove cross-country many times. Family survivors include wife Diane; two sons, Jay (Davida) of LB; Gregg of Seattle, WA and two grandchildren Joel and Elaina Miskiel of LB; brother Robert (Paula) of Tampa, FL; and many brothers/sisters-in-law and numerous nieces/nephews through four generations. Viewing Friday, January 5 from 4-8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7PM; Luyben Dilday Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Rd, LB 90808. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 6 at 11:00 AM, St. Cornelius RC Church, 5500 Wardlow Rd., LB 90808. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, 4400 Cherry Ave., LB 90808.
