Robert Ramsay Obituary
Robert Spicer Ramsay

January 25, 1923 - November 29, 2017

Spicer Ramsay, Long Beach native and son of Robert Ramsay, Jr. and Amy Forrest Spicer Ramsay, was a life-long member of First Congregational Church, having grown up just blocks from that historic building. He was a very active member for all of his 94 years, singing in the choir for decades, where he met his wife Della in 1946. He joined the Army in 1943, serving in WWII Germany for the latter part of that conflict.

"Spi" and Della raised a family of five children in Lakewood, CA, where he lived the last 60 years. He worked as a respected auto parts manager at various dealerships around the area before retiring in 1988. He and Della both served on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels of LB, also volunteering as driver and friendly visitors for over 30 years.

His life was full of love and service: for his country, for his church and community, and most of all, for his family. He was the primary caregiver for Della during the last years of her life. He enjoyed the ability to live independently until the last two months of his life. He is survived by his sons, Scott (Linda), Doug (Nadine), and Greg (Sherri) Ramsay; his daughters, Heather (Steve) Chambers and Melody (Kevin) O'Keefe, his eight grandchildren, three great grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews, not to mention his First Church family, all of whom will sorely miss his love, warmth, and humor.

A celebration of Spicer's life will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at First Congregational Church, 241 Cedar Avenue, Long Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to First Congregational Church of Long Beach or Meals on Wheels of Long Beach. Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits
