William Caplinger Jr. Obituary
William Caplinger, Jr. passed away peacefully at 100 years of age on December 3, 2018. Bill was born 9/13/1918 and grew up in Long Beach with his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. After an adventurous youth pitching for minor league baseball teams, serving as navigator and bombardier in the Army Air Force during World War II, after serving time in a German POW camp, after seeing the world from a B24 bomber, after collecting dozens of amazing stories, he married the love of his life, Marie Louise Schultz with whom he lovingly raised two children. His beloved Marie passed away in 2009. Bill was a wonderful husband and father, amazing grandfather, brother and uncle and a good friend to so many people. He was a man of simple tastes and good humor who charmed everyone he met. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. At age 85 he was baptized into the Catholic Church because "I want to go to Heaven." That's where we will find him. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Costello and her husband Francis; son, Michael and his wife Brenda; 3 grandchildren, Carrie, Elizabeth and Stephen; brother, Lyle; and sister, Mickey Young. Services will be held at All Souls Mortuary, 4400 Cherry Blvd. Long Beach, CA on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 9am.Please sign the guestbook at presstelegram.com.(562) 424-8601
