Dear Dr. Coon:
Now that you have crossed over I thought I would list the gifts you gave me (in order).
1. A love of drums
2. A love of music – “The Whiffenpoof Song” to “Gesu Bambino”
3. An understanding that practice makes perfect
4. A chance to lead
5. A sense that everyone has great worth
6. An awareness that most of us are rich (Sunshine Camp)
7. Look for the best in those who seem to be the least
8. Handel and “Pifa”, Divorak, the story behind “Bolero”, Vagner, J.S. Bach, and your love song for Mary…”The Meditation” from Thais by Massenet.
9. That God expresses Himself through music
10. The bottom line, if you work hard enough you absolutely can do it.
Dr. Coon you were, and have been, and always will be my role model. I believe now, or very soon, you will be vying for Concert Master in that great orchestra in heaven and I do so look forward to hearing you play once again.
God speed, Dr. Coon!
