Our amazing mother, Catalina M. Torres "Cata", passed away at home Wednesday, February, 13, 2013. She was born in Hatch, NM on March 22, 1928 to her parents Cesario and Rafelita Martinez. Catalina was raised in a loving family of 14 siblings. Catalina Married Albert C. Torres, also of Hatch, on June 25, 1950 after graduating from Hatch Valley High School. She and Albert drove school buses for the Hatch school system and farmed for many years. After 28 years of driving, she retired to devote her time to the family business left to them by Alberts parents. Together they ran the Hatch Package Store for many years along with a car wash wich was certainly needed in Hatch. Catalina was also an avid gardener and had an amazing green house where even her clippings turned into awesome plants. She also volunteered for 16 + years to the Hatch Chile Festival. All this Catalina accomplished even when afflicted with Parkisons Disease in her early fifties. The woman never let this disease stop her and she continued to do the things she loved for many years. Catalina is survived by a son, Ernesto J. Torres of Boulder, CO; a daughter Martha E. Cox and husband Jim of Farmington, NM; and a son Alberto Patricio Torres of Hatch, NM. Also surviving her are grandson Isaac S. Torres of Rio Rancho, NM, granddaughter Corina L. Rust and husband Steven R. of Lakeside, CA; three great granddaughters from the Rust family: Madison N. and twins, Kailee J. and Hailee M. She is also survived by her brothers Henry Martinez, Willie Martinez and wife Martha, Jessie Martinez and wife MaryLee all of Las Cruces, NM and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws, and friends. Catalina was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings Magdelena, Pablo, Julio, Jesus, Isidiro, Cecilia, Cesario, Carlos, Guillermo, and Pedrito. Visitation for Catalina will be from 6-7 pm on Thursday February 21, 2013 at Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church, where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 pm, Funeral services will be 11 am Friday February 22, 2013 also at the same church, burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. Ernest, Martha. and Patrick, Your mom gave me my 1st job. After I was done, she let me play the piano as long as I wanted... no matter how bad I was. And she let me eat as many chocolate chip coconut cookies as I wanted. They are now my favs. So many wonderful loving memories. She will be missed. Luv you all.

Aunt Cata gave me my 1st job when I was thirteen. After I was done with my chores she let me play the piano as long as I wanted... no matter how bad it was. She let me take my prom pictures in front of her beautiful new fireplace. This just shows what a kind loving person she really was. After leaving Hatch, I always made it a point to visit when I came for visits. She will be greatly missed.
