Emilia Lira

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Emilia Lira, 75, of Fairacres, left her dwelling place on earth and entered eternal life to be with her heavenly father, Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born Sept. 1, 1937 in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose de la Luz and Librada Orrantia Jimenez. Mrs. Lira was a homemaker and member of the Catholic Church. Those left to mourn her passing include her loving husband, Juan S. Lira of the family home; three sons, Ramon and Armando Lira both of Las Cruces, Manuel Tomas Lira of Fort Collins, Colo.; four daughters, Maria Elena Jacquez of Fort Collins, Maria Ofelia, Juanita and Teresa Lira all of Las Cruces; two brothers, Manuel and Guadalupe Jimenez both of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Other survivors include 31 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Monserrat Lira; a son, Antonio Lira; a sister, Maria Guerra; a brother, Luis Jimenez; a grandson, Miguel Angel Gallegos; great grandson, J.J. Benavidez and a great granddaughter, Maria de los Angeles Lira. Visitation for Mrs. Lira will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda, with Rev. Alejandro Reyes officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow in the Doña Ana Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Jose H. Candela, Lorenzo, Armando, Manuel Tomas and Edgar Lira, Antonio Tecillo, Chon Guerra and Salvador Felix. Service arrangements have been entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces. 527-2222.
